Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times the conversation he has had with Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

The Scottish giants will take on Burnley in a pre-season friendly match at Ibrox this afternoon.

Both Rangers and Burnley will be using the game to prepare for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign.

While the Gers will be looking to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season, the Clarets will be aiming to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Burnley won the Championship title last season and gained automatic promotion to the Premier League for the 2016-17 campaign.

Rangers boss Warburton has revealed that he has been assured by Dyche that Burnley will field a strong team for this afternoon’s pre-season friendly match at the Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.

“Saturday will be a step up for us,” Warburton told The Glasgow Evening Times. “I know Sean, I’ve spoken with him and they’ll be very strong.

"It will be a tough test but these are exactly the kind of games we need. Our match fitness is good.”

Rangers have been quite in the summer transfer window so far, signing Jordan Rossiter, Joey Barton, Clint Hill, Niko Kranjcar and Lee Hodson among others.

The Gers will take on Hamilton Academical at Ibrox in their opening game of the 2016-17 Scottish Premiership campaign next weekend.
