Tottenham Hotspur youngster Harry Winks has admitted to the club’s official website that he made a mistake against Atletico Madrid on Friday.
The 20-year-old midfielder featured in Tottenham’s pre-season friendly match against Spanish club Atletico at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.
The North London outfit lost the pre-season friendly game 1-0, thanks to Diego Godin’s goal in the 40th minute.
Winks has admitted his role in the defeat for Tottenham, but he has insisted that he will learn from the mistake he made against the 2016 Champions League finalists.
“In the grand scheme of things we shouldn’t have lost it,” Winks told Tottenham’s official website. “We had the better chances and probably should have won the game. They won from a set-piece which I gave away and I’ll learn from that.
“They are a class side and you can’t afford to give a team who is that good on set pieces a chance to score.”
Winks’ comments show his maturity and strong personality. It is not always easy for players to admit their mistakes publicly, but the youngster has done just that.
It is great to see that the England Under-20 international is not afraid to admit his mistakes.
What is heartening is that Winks is determined to learn from his mistakes and move on.
It will be hard for the youngster to break into the first team and play regularly for Tottenham this season, but he certainly seems to have the personalty and the attitude to establish himself at the North London outfit in the long run.
