Everton assistant manager Erwin Koeman has insisted to the Daily Mail that John Stones is acting like a top professional amid interest from Manchester City.

The defender is the subject of intense transfer speculation once again this summer, with Manchester City particularly keen on his services.

It is believed that new City manager Pep Guardiola is thought to view him as the perfect addition to his back line.

However, a deal is yet to be struck between the two sides, with Everton’s £50 million asking price thought to be a sticking point at this moment in time.

It wouldn’t be surprising to hear that Stones has been distracted by all the talk, but Koeman insists that has not been the case.

“John is very positive. Of course we know the rumours,” he told the Daily Mail.

“John is very positive in training, he does his job so that’s great. It’s very simple - he is a member of Everton. Top professionals don’t show anything - they do their job. They are professional and he is.”

It now remains to be seen if Stones does get his move from Everton to Manchester City this summer.

The Blues have set their asking price and so far that is a fee that Pep Guardiola’s side have been unwilling to match.

With the player secured to a long term deal and Everton not needing the money either, it would not be surprising to see him staying at Goodison Park.
