West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for free transfer defender Jose Enrique, according to the Birmingham Mail, after his release by Liverpool this summer.

The Spanish fullback has been in English football for nearly ten years, but has struggled for much of the last few seasons.

Though he was a regular at Anfield for the first two seasons of his five year stay there, Enrique has just 21 appearances to his name across his final three seasons at the club, with just three cup appearances last season as he struggled for football under Jurgen Klopp.

He was seen as one of the best left-backs in the division when the Reds signed him from Newcastle United in 2011, and given his age he still would likely have something to offer the Premier League.

The Mail report goes on to say that the Baggies may have to contend with the possibility of Enrique asking for high wages - he was allegedly on around £70,000 a week at Anfield - but given his lack of first-team football the Spaniard would likely be prepared to settle for much less just to get back out on the pitch in the top flight.

Pulis is said to be looking for support at left-back, having been forced into moving players from other positions to fill in their last season with Chris Brunt, James Chester and Jonny Evans all taking turns there over the last 12 months.
