Petr Cech has insisted to ESPN that Arsenal must only buy the players that they need and not just for the sake of buying.

The Gunners were expected to be busy this summer as they sought to bounce back from the disappointment of finishing second.

That has not been the case though, with Granit Xhaka the only major signing to arrive at the club this summer.

That is not an acceptable situation for the fans, who have grown frustrated as the likes of Manchester United have spent vast sums on big money signings.

Cech has backed his club’s stance though, saying they must only buy the players that they need rather than buying for buying sake.

“I think you need to buy players you need,” he told ESPN.

“You need to buy players that will improve the team and not to buy players just for buying. That’s the philosophy of the club.”

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can secure any more signings in the remainder of this transfer window.

There Is no denying that they need improvements, especially given the manner in which their direct rivals have all strengthened this summer.

Given their strict policies though, it would not be surprising if further signings did not arrive and Arsenal fans were left frustrated once again.
