Much is expected of Liverpool this season, as they prepare for their first full season with Jurgen Klopp at the helm.

In an interview with the Liverpool's official website, Daniel Sturridge has described the club's pre-season preparations under Jurgen Klopp as the most intense that he has ever experienced during his time in the game.

Klopp arrived at Anfield in October of last year, bringing with him a reputation of pushing players to the limits of their physical powers, and Sturridge has backed up this notion by telling

“It’s a lot more intense, probably the most intense I’ve ever experienced at any club. It is just a different intensity and a different kind of pre-season. It is certainly something that everyone is getting used to and will hopefully put us in good stead for the season. There has been a lot of hard work and a lot of running sessions, tactical sessions as well. It has been going well."

The 26-year-old former Chelsea striker's career has been plagued by a series of well-documented injury problems, and maybe a full pre-season with different training methods is precisely what Sturridge needs to get the most out of his game from a physical aspect.

He went on to discuss how he is feeling in fine fettle as the start of the Premier League season fast approaches:

“I am feeling fresh. Pre-season is about pushing your body to the limits, so there has been a lot of sessions. You have to push yourself through the sessions as best you can.”

It will be interesting to see if Klopp's exhausting training methods bear fruit over the course of what will be such a physically punishing and intense season.

For this kind of philosophy to work, the German must rotate his squad on a regular basis in order to keep his players fresh.

The six new singings he has brought into the club will certainly enable him to do this, but whether or not they are of sufficient quality to help the club succeed is another matter entirely.

The Reds kick off their campaign with a tricky trip to Arsenal on August 14th.
