Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has told Fox Sports that he wants to feature against Atletico Madrid in the pre-season friendly on Friday.
The Premier League outfit will take on Spanish club Atletico at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne in a couple of hours’ time.
Eriksen has been passed fit to play in the match after overcoming illness, and the Denmark international has made it clear that he wants to play some part in the pre-season game.
“I’m feeling much better, otherwise I wouldn’t be here,’’ Eriksen told Fox Sports.
“We had training in the morning when we arrived and straight after I felt a bit sick. I’ve had stomach pains for the last three days, but now it’s heaps better.
“He’s putting the team together. Hopefully I’ll be involved and make my minutes. I haven’t played that much so far so hopefully I’ll make my minutes and my fitness.’’
Eriksen is one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe, and he will be a key player for Tottenham next season.
It is important that the 24-year-old gets some good playing time during pre-season in order to be fully ready for the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Dane scored six goals and created 114 chances in 35 Premier League appearances for Tottenham last season.
During the 2014-15 campaign, Eriksen scored 10 goals and created 83 chances in 38 league matches for Spurs.
