Birmingham manager Gary RowettBirmingham manager Gary Rowett has discussed his need for incoming players

Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett has been fairly open regarding the club's pursuit of a plethora of transfer targets. He explained to the Birmingham Mail how the Blues have tabled bids for numerous players, but will not rush their business.

A crucial area of the field where Rowett must ensure he strengthens is in the forward department. The Midlands outfit are desperately short in attacking areas, and require an experienced goalscorer, who is accustomed to the fierce nature of the English game.

The current strikers at the Blues manager's disposal managed a paltry return of just 11 goals between them in the Championship last term, and if they are to improve on their 10th place finish, they must add goals, and someone to link the play between midfield and attack.

Victor Anichebe is available on a free transfer after being released from West Brom this summer, and could be exactly what Birmingham need.

The Nigerian international, 28, could act as a fantastic focal point of the Blues attack. He is a wonderful target man who, with his imposing physique and substantial strength, can provide a useful outlet for his defence when they are under pressure.

Anichebe has never been the most prolific of goal scorers, but more than half of his appearances throughout his career have been as a substitute, and if he was to be given a regular starting role, he would surely become more clinical.

With Birmingham's need for a striker, and the former Everton marksman being available on a free, it seems to be a no-brainer for the Blues.

It would be a move that would involve little financial risk for the club, but one that could pay huge dividends next season.
