Arsenal have been following the 17-year-old forward for two-years and have been close to signing him on more than one occasion, but the deal has never been able to go through - the last time being because of a knee injury he suffered last summer.

The Gunners re-opened talks with his club Velez Sarsfield earlier this summer, but now sources have told HITC Sport that Mauricio Pochettino has made personal enquiries about the player and has been encouraged by the information he has got back.

Now Spurs are now considering making an offer, which could see Arsenal gazumped and would surely leave Arsene Wenger seething, as he believes Romero to be one of the world's brightest prospects.

However, it remains to be seen whether Wenger will be beaten to one of his main targets by his rivals.
