Sheffield Wednesday fans were given something to shout about on Thursday evening as the club announced that they have completed the double signing of Watford pair Almen Abdi and Daniel Pudil.

Pudil spent last season on loan at the Owls from the Hornets and was a key part of Carlos Carvalhal's side which finished sixth in the Championship and reached the play-off final, only to suffer Wembley heartbreak against Hull City.

After playing 42 matches in all competitions, scoring twice, he has now agreed a permanent switch to Hillsborough, where he will surely hold down the left-back spot once more this term.

Pudil will be joined by 29-year-old Switzerland international midfielder Abdi, who leaves Watford in a move which is somewhat surprising given that he was a regular for the Premier League side last term.

In total, Abdi scored 24 goals in 129 appearances in four years at the Hornets, and he will now add another dimension to Carvalhal's midfield.

The former Udinese man has experience of winning promotion from the Championship with Watford, and is surely a high-quality addition to the Wednesday side.

Wednesday have already done good business this summer, signing ex-Premier League striker Steven Fletcher on a free transfer, and in Abdi and Pudil they have added two players who will surely be regular fixtures in the starting XI next term.

Reacting to the double deal on Twitter, Owls fans could barely contain their delight, particularly at the signing of Abdi whom they touted as a future star for the club.
