Southampton have lost the services of key players such as Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle and Victor Wanyama this summer but in typical fashion, the Saints have brought in quality replacements in the form of Pierre-Emile Hojberg and Nathan Redmond.
Now manager Claude Puel will be looking to make a couple more signings before the start of the Premier League campaign next month and strengthening the backline seems to be a priority for the 54-year-old at the moment.
It was reported last month that one of the defensive players Southampton were targeting was Ruben Semedo and now A Bola have gone on to claim that the Saints have revisited their interest in the Sporting Lisbon star.
The report state that Southampton had sent scouts to the Spanish city Badajoz to watch Semedo during Villarreal’s pre-season friendly against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night and the Premier League side’s representative were able to catch the defender in action for 45 minutes.
Semedo is a highly rated Portuguese Under-21 international who featured prominently for Sporting last season and the report add that he is valued at around £12.5 million by the Portuguese giants.
