According to a report on the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have asked about signing Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Palace have already signed Steve Mandanda this summer, and he looks likely to become Alan Pardew’s number one stopper.

However, the Eagles reportedly feel that Begovic would still be an exciting addition and they have enquired about signing him on loan.

Begovic has not featured regularly since leaving Stoke City to join Chelsea last summer, and Palace feel that Antonio Conte may be willing to part with the Bosnian.

The Mail have not hinted at which way Chelsea responded to Palace’s request yet, but they do say that the move has given Southampton encouragement that Alex McCarthy could be available for transfer.

Palace already have Julian Speroni and Wayne Hennessey at Selhurst Park, meaning McCarthy could be deemed surplus to requirements.

The Saints are reportedly willing to spend £2 million to sign McCarthy, who would join as back-up to Fraser Forster.
