Arsenal's Francis Coquelin and Mesut Ozil in action with Aston Villa's Idrissa Gueye
According to ESPN, Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye is undergoing a medical with Everton having been given permission to head to Merseyside for talks.
Gueye, 26, joined Villa from Lille last summer, filling the gap left by Fabian Delph's move to Manchester City - and with Villa suffering relegation, his performances appear to have split opinion.

Many believe that Gueye was one of Villa's more impressive players last season, and point to statistics such as his tackling and interceptions, which show him to be similar to N'Golo Kante, who just earned a big-money move to Chelsea.
However, others believe that those stats mask Gueye's struggles, as he doesn't take care of possession well enough and doesn't contribute enough going forward either.

Now though, with just over a week until the start of the Championship season, Villa are set to lose Gueye. ESPN report that Everton have activated a £7.1m release clause in Gueye's contract, and he's on the verge of joining Ronald Koeman's side.
It's stated that Gueye has been given permission to travel to Merseyside, and is undergoing a medical with the club having held talks over his personal terms earlier today.
Everton's new boss Koeman is believed to be a huge fan of Gueye, and he'll now compete with the likes of Gareth Barry, Muhamed Besic, James McCarthy and Tom Cleverley in the Everton midfield.
It's a blow for Villa to lose Gueye so close to the start of the season, but with Aaron Tshibola already snapped up from Reading, they may already have their replacement at the club.
Do you think Gueye will be a good signing for Everton?
