Former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn has told Radio Yorkshire that he regards under-21 striker Frank Mulhern as having a 'massive future'.

Redfearn, who used to work also heading up the Leeds academy was speaking on the station's Yorkshire Football Show on Wednesday evening (27/7).

Mulhern has not been involved in the club's pre-season fixtures with the first team, but Redfearn urges fans not to forget about him.

He said: "Frank Mulhern is another one who has not been mentioned. He has got a massive future.

"He is a young boy in a man's body, and has got a good touch. Given the right set of circumstances he could flourish."

Mulhern is a Republic of Ireland youth international, and ended the season with a moment to remember, scoring a 25 yard strike in a 3-3 draw against Barnsley.

He was not the only one praised by Redfearn, who also picked out Alex Purver, who has featured in pre-season.

The ex-boss claimed Purver was 'not far off' the first team during his stint in charge, which ended a year ago.

Leeds' Chris Wood looks dejected at the end of the matchCould Mulhern eventually succeed Leeds striker Chris Wood?

It remains doubtful Mulhern will get chances this coming season, with competition up front from Chris Wood, Marcus Antonsson, Kemar Roofe and Souleymane Doukara, while Eoghan Stokes appears ahead of him in the pecking order.

Yet the youngster does have the physical attributes to adapt to the Championship, and if he continues to impress for the under-21 side, then he may yet have a chance of breaking through eventually.
