Rumoured Liverpool target Max Meyer has admitted to Kicker he is aware of Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for him.

The young midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield last week as Bild reported that the Reds had made an enquiry about the Schalke starlet.

They claimed that Klopp was a long-term admirer of the 20-year-old and had even tried to take him to Borussia Dortmund during his time in charge at the Westfalenstadion.

He is now reportedly looking to take him to Merseyside in a £27 million deal this summer.

And now Meyer had fanned the flames by admitting that he is more than aware of the German boss’ admiration for him.

"I know from the past that he appreciates me as a player," he told Kicker.

"After my first derby against Borussia Dortmund - I was 18-years-old and scored a goal - he has publicly expressed praise for me. That's a nice feeling, when a great coach as he finds you good."

It now remains to be seen if Liverpool make a firm offer to bring Meyer to Anfield this summer.

It seems unlikely that they will given they have a number of players all currently looking to play in those attacking midfield options this season.

The additions of Mane and Wijnaldum have only added to the competition and it would be surprising to see Meyer added to that list.
