Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United defender Curtis Good has shared the message that Rafa Benitez has given him as he attempts to return from injury.

The defender has had an injury hit couple of years after he originally picked up a hip injury during the summer of 2014.

Numerous complications and three surgeries since and the 23-year-old is still working towards full fitness.

He featured for Peter Beardsley’s Under 21 side in the Steel Park Cup over the weekend, with him naturally eyeing a chance in the first team in future.

But he says Rafa Benitez has told him to prove that he is still capable of competing physically at the top level.

“His biggest messaged to me: ‘Prove you can still play at the top level physically,” he told the Chronicle.

“So I’ve got to prove my fitness and that’s what I’m trying to do and trying to prove that to myself and to the club.”

It now remains to be seen whether Good can prove his fitness and go on to become a first team player at Newcastle United.

The big bonus for him is that the centre of defence is an area that they are not particularly strong in so places may be up for grabs should he prove himself.

That may not be available this season though, and a perhaps a loan move somewhere would be the best manner for him to show Benitez what he can do.
