Arsenal's Francis Coquelin and Mesut Ozil in action with Aston Villa's Idrissa Gueye
According to a report from Sky Sports, Everton have activated the £7.1m release clause in the contract of Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
Gueye, 26, joined Villa from Lille last summer as a replacement for Fabian Delph, and played in 35 of Villa's 38 Premier League games last season.

The Senegal international impressed many with his tackling and interceptions, posting similar statistics to Leicester City star N'Golo Kante, who has since earned a move to Chelsea.
Now, Gueye appears to be leaving Villa Park after the club's relegation to the Championship, with Everton seemingly closing in on a deal for the midfielde.r

The deal appears to have divided Villa fans, and former Villa striker Stan Collymore has taken to Twitter to give his opinion on Gueye's potential move to Villa Park.

Collymore suggested that Gueye will be a 'very good' signing for Everton, and noted that Gueye's stats from last season were similar to Kante's.
The pundit also thinks that, with better players around him than he had at Villa, Gueye will impress - and thinks even Kante would have struggled in the same role at Villa last season.

Do you think Gueye would be a good signing for Everton?
