Portuguese newspaper Record claim that Nabil Bentaleb's agent has told them that the midfielder wants to stay in England amid suggestions of a move to Benfica.

Bentaleb, 21, became a first-team player at White Hart Lane under Tim Sherwood back in 2013, with the former Dunkerque youngster becoming a top prospect in North London.

With over 40 Premier League appearances by the end of the 2014/15 season, Bentaleb looked destined for a bright future at White Hart Lane, but his time at Spurs now looks to be over.

The Algerian international played in just five Premier League games last season, and has now been told that he can leave Tottenham this summer, as manager Mauricio Pochettino told Sky Sports.

Just a year after signing a new five-year contract with the club, Bentaleb is on his way out, and whilst it remains to be seen where he will end up, Portuguese newspaper Record claim that Benfica are keen on Bentaleb after Renato Sanches' move to Bayern Munich.

The same report also states that Bentaleb's agent Madjid Yebda told Record that Bentaleb currently wants to sign for another English club, and would therefore snub a move to European giants Benfica.

The report adds that Middlesbrough may be keen on Bentaleb, but with the player seemingly desperate to stay in the Premier League, a host of other clubs should be moving to pick up the young midfielder this summer.

Bentaleb appears to be settled in London, hence his desire to stay in England, but joining a Premier League rival would also give him the chance to prove Tottenham wrong for letting him leave after a frustrating year at White Hart Lane.

Do you think Tottenham should keep Bentaleb?
