According to The Guardian, Brad Guzan is on the verge of signing for Middlesbrough, after the Aston Villa goalkeeper agreed a two-year contract with Boro.

Aitor Karanka has already added one veteran goalkeeper this summer in Victor Valdes, and despite still having Dimitrios Konstantopoulos and Tomas Mejias in his ranks, the Boro boss is now set to add another goalkeeper to his squad.

The Guardian report that Guzan has agreed a two-year contract with Middlesbrough, and will join the club on a free transfer on Thursday.

Guzan, 31, joined Villa from Chivas USA back in the summer of 2008, and having initially been a backup to Brad Friedel and then Shay Given, he eventually became Villa's first-choice goalkeeper during the 2012-13 season.

Now with more than 170 appearances for Villa, Guzan looks set to leave Villa Park, after a season where he was heavily criticised by Villa supporters.

The American international was slammed for a number of errors over the course of the season, and even lost his place in the team to Mark Bunn at one stage.

Now, the American - who has 50 caps for his country - is bringing an end to his eight-year spell with Villa, and will return to the Premier League with newly-promoted Boro.

The battle for the No. 1 jersey at the Riverside Stadium should be a fascinating one, with Guzan set to battle it out with Champions League and World Cup winner Valdes this season.
