Neil Redfearn says this is what Leeds must do over Charlie Taylor

Leeds should not sell Charlie Taylor this transfer window, according to their former boss.

Former boss Neil Redfearn has urged the club to 'settle' the Charlie Taylor situation, and keep him this summer.

The ex-Leeds head coach was speaking on Radio Yorkshire's Yorkshire Football Show on Wednesday night responding a BBC Radio Leeds interview with club chief executive Ben Mansford the previous evening.

Mansford had stated that Taylor does not want to extend his contract, but Redfearn argues this does not mean Leeds should sell up this summer - for a very simple reason.

He said: "I'd keep him. I don't see anyone out there they've been linked with that's anywhere near his level."

This would show real resolve from Leeds, who have only one year to convince Taylor to stay or risk losing him when his current deal expires.

Redfearn's attitude is that if Leeds are serious about promotion, they must keep their best players, and Taylor is one of them.

His departure may be inevitable, but Leeds are cushioned by the fact if he walks away next summer, they could stand to net millions in compensation from a tribunal.

Redfearn, who left the club last summer after a spell as coach, after years in the academy where he helped bring Taylor among other through, added: "There was interest when I was here, and rightly so.

"He was always going to get in [the team], it was a matter of when. Now he's into his pomp, right where he should be.

"He doesn't want all this uncertainty round him, it's the last thing he needs. The club has got to address that. For Garry Monk's sake he needs a fully focused Charlie Taylor."
