Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the club’s official website that Efe Ambrose needs to keep things simple.
Ambrose has been heavily criticised since Rodgers took charge, after he put in a horrendous display against Lincoln Red Imps in the Champions League.
Celtic lost 1-0 to the part-timers in Rodgers’ first match in charge, with Ambrose’s error leading to the goal.
The Nigerian defender has since been dropped for the starting line-up, and the signing of Kolo Toure has knocked him down the pecking order at Celtic Park.
Celtic fans are still furious with Ambrose, with the majority of the Glasgow club’s supporters seemingly hoping that the defender moves on.
However, Rodgers said: “In terms of Efe, people have seen him a lot more than me, and he knows that if he can cut out mistakes and errors that he makes in games then you have a very good player.
“Physically he’s very strong, he’s very fast and he’s good in the air. It’s just about decision-making and simplifying the game and if he can do that then he can be an asset.”
Whether Ambrose will have a chance to prove his worth at Celtic remains to be seen, as he has been linked with a move away lately.
Ambrose is currently training with the Celtic squad ahead of their match against Astana later this evening.
However, when he returns to Glasgow, his future will be up in the air.
Olympiacos are the latest team to be linked with Ambrose in the Daily Record.
