Arsenal's Francis Coquelin and Mesut Ozil in action with Aston Villa's Idrissa Gueye
According to Sky Sports, Everton have met the £7.1m release clause in the contract of Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye - prompting mixed responses from Villa fans.
The Toffees have made just one addition to their first team this summer as goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg reunited with his former Ajax and Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.

However, more additions are expected at Goodison Park this summer thanks to Farhad Moshiri's investment, and they seem to be making a move on recently-relegated Aston Villa.
Sky Sports claim that the Toffees have activated a release clause in midfielder Idrissa Gueye's contract, which - if the deal goes through - would earn Villa £7.1m.

The move shouldn't be much of a surprise; after all, Gueye admitted to the Daily Mail that Southampton - then managed by Koeman - wanted to sign him last summer, whilst the Daily Mail also claimed in 2015 that Leicester were keen on Gueye. Former Foxes recruitment chief Steve Walsh has just left the club to become Everton's new director of football, meaning Gueye is a player highly thought of by a number of decision makers at Goodison Park.
Since the news broke, Villa fans have been taking to Twitter to give their views on the deal, and it's fair to say that Gueye has divided opinion at Villa Park.

Many Villa fans believe that Gueye was one of Villa's top performers last season, and his industry in midfield would be missed - even if he could work on his passing.
However, others feel that the 26-year-old Senegal international won't be missed as he was overrated by many supporters who compared him to Leicester's N'Golo Kante last season, due to his similar stats in terms of tackles and interceptions.
Here are some of the reactions from Aston Villa fans after Everton reportedly activated Gueye's release clause...
£7m+ for Gueye! Thought he was useless last season. Awful passer, gave ball away & committed silly fouls. Overrated. Get rid! #AVFC— Chris Driver (@ChrisDriver) July 26, 2016
Gutted Gueye is leaving, one of the only players who was decent last season, will be a top player with good players around him #AVFC— Nat (@natpepp123) July 26, 2016
More than happy to see Gueye go, weak presence and limp going forward. Won't be missed in B6. #UTV— MrAstonVilla (@villa1st) July 26, 2016
Kinda gutted Gueye is leaving, one of our better players last season— DG3 (@DG3_AVFC) July 26, 2016
Not a big fan of idrissa gueye, and I don't care what the stats say either. Very lightweight and mate a lot of mistakes last season #avfc— Robert Gibbons (@robgibb01) July 26, 2016
I really dont want to see gueye leave— james roche (@jamesroche3) July 26, 2016
Do you think Villa will miss Gueye if he joins Everton?
