Speaking to the Star, Gary Hooper has said that he will be able to forge a good partnership with Steven Fletcher during the upcoming campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday missed out on promotion last season following a disappointing defeat to Hull City in the play-off final and one can be sure that the Owls will be determined to make amends during the upcoming Championship campaign.
Manager Carlos Carvalhal has not been too busy in the transfer market so far this summer but he has managed to pull off a major coup by securing the services of Fletcher on a free transfer.
Fletcher has already impressed for Wednesday in pre-season so far and he played a crucial role in helping the Owls claim a comprehensive 4-0 victory over CD Nacional on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was introduced into the game alongside Gary Hooper on the hour mark and the duo wreaked havoc following their entry onto the pitch, combining well with each other to score three goals.
Hooper, who grabbed a brace, was happy with his linkup with Fletcher during the encounter and has stated that he expects to strike a good partnership with the former Sunderland star during the upcoming campaign.
The former Celtic striker told the Star, “I think Fletch and I can strike up a good partnership but we have got some top strikers at the club in Fernando, Atdhe and Lucas.
“With that competition, you have to be at the top of your game all the time. At the end of the day, it’s up to the gaffer who plays. He picks the team to win games so you have to train well and give him a headache.”
