Charles N'Zogbia is optimistic that he has done enough to earn a Sunderland contract, according to The Birmingham Mail.

The French winger has been training with the Black Cats following his release from Aston Villa, and the 30-year-old even scored the winner in Sunderland's 2-1 friendly win away to Rotherham United at the weekend.

The former Newcastle United man found himself isolated from Aston Villa's first team as well as the fanbase for a perceived poor attitude, but The Birmingham Mail report that he is optimistic of bouncing back by earning a contract at the Stadium of Light.

N'Zogbia has always had more than enough talent, but his mentality has perhaps prevented him from maximising his ability in English football.

Nevertheless, David Moyes remains a terrific man manager despite a rough couple of years in management, and the Scot might well be the person to help salvage something from N'Zogbia before it is too late.

Unbelievably, N'Zogbia has been in English football for 12 years now although it does not seem it. The two-time France international joined Newcastle in 2004 before then leaving for Wigan in 2009, and later joining Aston Villa in 2011.
