Reports in France have suggested that Manchester United have enquired about the possibility of signing West Ham United star Dimitri Payet.

France Football reports, as relayed by Top Mercato, that the Red Devils are interested in signing the player this summer – as are Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Payet has been a revelation for West Ham and France in the past 12 months and is therefore a wanted man.

United would need to pay big however to bring the player in.

Interest from mega-rich Chinese clubs saw West Ham hand Payet a new contract in February but he has been linked with an exit this summer.

Last month it was reported by the Express that West Ham would demand £75 million for the player.

However, this report claims United are looking at a fee nearer to €60 million (£50.2 million) – a fee that West Ham would struggle to reject.

Jose Mourinho, who is also hoping to complete a deal for Payet’s Les Bleus team-mate Paul Pogba this summer, is in need of another winger and Payet would certainly fit the bill.

But West Ham have been fairly adamant about the fact Payet will not be sold and it would be a big blow to the club if he did head to a Premier League rival such as Manchester United.

So far however this remains just a rumour and West Ham fans will hope it remains that way.
