Reading supporters have been reacting to reports that the club are interested in signing Netherlands and Spurs favourite Rafael van der Vaart this summer on Twitter, a deal reported by getreading.

The 33-year-old has been at Real Betis for the past year, and though the Spanish outfit are set to be managed by another former Tottenham man, Gus Poyet, it is likely Van der Vaart will be moved on ahead of the new season.

The Dutchman made just nine appearances last season after moving from Hamburg, and the getreading article suggests that he has already had talks with the Royals as the Championship side prepare for their first campaign under new manager Jaap Stam.

Ex-Manchester United star Stam played alongside Van der Vaart in the midfielders early years with the Netherlands side, and will be hoping he can convince his compatriot to consider a return to England.

Van der Vaart spent a little over two years at White Hart Lane, scoring 28 goals in 78 matches in what was a hugely exciting Tottenham side.

Reading supporters, having seen their club disappoint in finishing the previous season down in 17th spot, were excited by the prospect of a superstar arriving at the Madejski Stadium:
