Newcastle United take on Southend United this evening.

Newcastle United starting line-up: Darlow; Janmaat, Mbemba, Lascelles, Dummett; Hayden, Anita; Aarons, Shelvey, Perez; Gayle.

Newcastle United substitutes: Sels, Sterry, Hanley, Saivet, Colback, Gouffran, Thauvin, Armstrong, Mitrovic.

Newcastle United's pre-season preparations continue this evening as they travel to take on League One side Southend United.

The Magpies beat Belgians Lokeren 4-0 on Saturday, with Ayoze Perez bagging two goals in an impressive team performance from Rafael Benitez's men.

Tonight, Perez again starts out wide in what appears to be a 4-2-3-1 system from Benitez, with summer signing Dwight Gayle starting up front on his own.

Fellow summer arrival Isaac Hayden starts in holding midfield alongside Vurnon Anita, whilst Jonjo Shelvey is handed a role in attacking midfield having scored against Lokeren.

At the back, it's a familiar back four of Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett, with Karl Darlow getting the nod over Matz Sels in goal.

Recent signing Grant Hanley is on the bench, as are Aleksandar Mitrovic, young striker Adam Armstrong, and even winger Florian Thauvin following his return from a loan spell back in France with Marseille.

The forgotten Henri Saivet and Yoann Gouffran are also available and could stake a claim for a first-team place this evening.
