Jack Colback has told the Chronicle that he is impressed by the work done by manager Rafa Benitez in the transfer window, saying the Spaniard has brought in quality so far.

Benitez has been busy overhauling the squad at St James' Park as Newcastle prepare for life in the Championship next season.

Six new players have arrived at the club, with more signings expected before the end of the window.

Benitez has specifically focused on adding Championship experience to his squad, with the likes of Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden and Grant Hanley all having played in this division before.

And Colback says that is important, as the league is a lot different to the Premier League.

“We have brought in quality so far,” he told the Chronicle. “We have experience and British experience of the league itself. It’s a lot different to the Premier League, so that’s important. We need character and spirit in the team.”

It now remains to be seen if Newcastle’s signings do prove to be smart ones next season.

There is a lot of expectation on the Magpies, with many expecting them to comfortably secure a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

If they are to do that they will need their summer signings to be at the top of their game throughout what is likely to be a tough campaign.
