Now, with new manager Claude Puel at the helm following Ronald Koeman's shock move to Everton, Southampton are looking to add more new faces - and a surprise move for a right back could be on the cards.
Cedric Soares, who joined the club from Sporting Lisbon last summer, just won the European Championships with Portugal but was in and out of the side under Koeman, and with question marks over the future of Cuco Martina, another right back may be targeted.

Now, the Daily Star report that Southampton are keen to land Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier - a year after failing with a move to sign him from Burnley.
Trippier, 25, started just five Premier League games last season as he was mainly used as cover Kyle Walker, but may fancy more first-team football way from White Hart Lane this coming season.

The report claims that Southampton are ready to offer £5m for Trippier - £1.5m more than what Spurs paid last summer - in an attempt to finally secure his signature.
It's stated that Southampton wanted to sign Trippier last summer, but he chose a move to Spurs instead, but the Saints are now ready to offer him another chance of a move to the South Coast.
Whether Trippier is ready to trade North London for St. Mary's Stadium after just one year at Spurs remains to be seen, but Southampton certainly appear keen to snap him up again.
