Celtic have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Aleksandar Pantic for £1m.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Eibar's Aleksandar Pantic in action
The Bhoys needed defensive reinforcements this summer, as whilst January signing Erik Sviatchenko has impressed having signed from Midtjylland, Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata endured hit-and-miss debut seasons last term.
After landing striker Moussa Dembele from Fulham, new manager Brendan Rodgers did then move to strengthen his back line, as Kolo Toure joined the Bhoys on Sunday afternoon.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City man was a free agent having been released by Liverpool, and has now completed a reunion with his former Reds boss Rodgers, with reports suggesting he has been signed over Villarreal's Aleksandar Pantic.
The Daily Mail report that Celtic were offered the chance to sign Villarreal centre back Pantic for just £1m - but the Bhoys rejected that opportunity.
Pantic, 24, spent last season on loan at Eibar, making 20 league appearances for the Spaniards before heading back to Villarreal this summer, but even after Eric Bailly's move to Manchester United, his prospects of first-team football don't look too promising.
The report claims that Pantic was targeted by Celtic in January, when Ronny Deila was the club's manager, and the Serbian defender was keen on a move to Glasgow after Deila's interest, even snubbing Genk, Alaves, Sporting Gijon and Eibar in the process.
However, Rodgers seemingly wasn't quite as keen on Pantic as Deila was, and snubbed a £1m deal for the former Red Star Belgrade defender, reuniting with Toure instead.
Do you think Celtic made the right decision by signing Toure over Pantic?
