Ragnar Klavan has told Goal that he is pleased by the competition for places at Liverpool next season.

The defender is one of seven new faces at the club this summer, with manager Jurgen Klopp moving quickly in the transfer window.

Klavan arrived at the club last week in a move from German side Augsburg to provide further competition in the centre of defence.

It has been anticipated that he will be a back up to the likes of Mamadou Sakho and Joel Matip although recent comments from his manager have suggested otherwise.

Either way he faces a fight to get into the team, but he says he wants the challenge for places.

"It's a big club so wherever you go at this level you are going to face a fight to secure a place in the team," Klavan told Goal.

"It's a nice challenge that helps everyone because you have to give your best in training every day. I know it's going to be tough, but I've taken it on because I want this challenge."

It now remains to be seen what role Klavan has to play in the side next season.

Liverpool's defence has struggled for several years and nobody in the current squad has established themselves as an undisputed first choice.

That means there are places up for grabs and Klavan will be hoping to prove his worth in pre-season to make himself a regular in the team next season and beyond.
