HITC Sport understands Oxford target Motherwell star.
Oxford United are lining up a move for highly-rated Motherwell winger Marvin Johnson, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Johnson has been a revelation for Motherwell since joining the club from Kidderminster Harriers in January 2015.
The skilful winger played a key role in helping Motherwell secure survival in the Scottish Premiership in his first six months at the club and he was a virtual ever-present last season, making 42 appearances and scoring six goals.
Johnson has started the new season in fine form with a wonder goal and man of the match display in the Scottish League Cup win over Annan at the weekend and Motherwell are bracing themselves for offers for their prized asset.
A number of clubs in Scotland and England have been keeping tabs on Johnson after watching him in action on several occasions with the likes of Celtic, Rangers and Hearts all keen to keep the player in Scotland and Championship side Queens Park Rangers eager to lure him south of the border.
However, Oxford are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by bringing Johnson to the Kassam Stadium as manager Michael Appleton looks to strengthen his squad as they prepare for life in League One next season.
Oxford are in the market for attacking reinforcements after losing Kemar Roofe and Callum O'Dowda this summer and Johnson would bring some creativity to the side.
Motherwell are reluctant to lose Johnson, but they would find it hard to turn down a sizeable offer for a player they landed for a bargain fee from Kidderminster.
