Alejandro Moreno has intimated to ESPN that Vincent Janssen is nowhere near as lethal as Harry Kane, suggesting Tottenham Hotspur could really struggle if the English hitman suffers a lengthy injury this season.
The 21-year-old striker netted 25 Premier League goals last season to win the competition's Golden Boot ahead of the likes of Sergio Aguero, Jamie Vardy and Romelu Lukaku.
The England forward is certainly an elite goalscorer but, with Tottenham now in the Champions League, Mauricio Pochettino needed a very capable deputy to cover Kane this season.
Pochettino spent some £18.5 million on bringing in Janssen from AZ Alkmaar, with the 22-year-old netting 27 times in 32 Eredivisie starts last season.
The Dutchman - who is the only attack-minded player signed by the Lilywhites so far - certainly boasts impressive numbers, but Moreno has suggested to ESPN that none of Spurs' signings are anywhere near Kane as far as goalscoring goes.
"The biggest question is Harry Kane. I don't have a doubt that the guy can score goals in the Premier League - he has certainly proven that - but what if he's injured?
"Now you're going to need that depth. They've added players to try cover for Harry Kane but [they're] not nearly at the level of Harry Kane. If he's gone, then Spurs will have difficulties scoring goals."
The former Venezuela international may have a point. Kane has enjoyed a goal-laden couple of seasons with Spurs, but Pochettino rested the marksman in the Europa League last term and he is unable to do the same in the Champions League without causing uproar among the fanbase.
Plus, Kane endured a terrible Euro 2016 with England which could affect his confidence coming into the new season. He went nine games without finding the net at the start of last season and another barren spell might well undermine Tottenham's title bid in the very early stages of the forthcoming campaign.
Tottenham fans will be hoping that there is not a gulf in class between him and Janssen, as Moreno suggests.
