Will the 21-year-old rediscover his best Leeds United form again?

Leeds United boss Garry Monk has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that midfielder Alex Mowatt has been "great" so far in pre-season.

The 21-year-old struggled to scale the heights expected of him last season as Mowatt's reputation took a bit of a knock.

However, the talented midfielder scored in Leeds' 2-1 defeat by Peterborough United on Saturday - only a friendly but it might be an early morale boost.

That being said, Monk has intimated that Mowatt is strong enough mentally to the point where he does not need "an arm around him", insisting that he's been working hard all summer to rediscover his best form.

“He’s been great and he’s been very hard-working,” Monk said to The YEP. “I don’t think he needs an arm round him. I just think the players are being pushed and the demands here are high.”

The trip to London Road was Leeds' penultimate pre-season clash of the summer, with the Whites rounding off their summer friendlies by hosting Serie A side Atalanta at Elland Road next week.

It gets serious after that as United visit Queens Park Rangers on August 7 for their first Championship clash of the campaign. It'll also be Monk's competitive debut as Leeds manager, after replacing Steve Evans in the summer.
