Stan Collymore has predicted that Newcastle United will bounce straight back from relegation and win the Championship at the first attempt in the upcoming season.

The Magpies go into the campaign as the heavy favourites to win England’s second tier with the bookies.

And Collymore has backed Newcastle to live up to expectations and lift the Championship title, as they did in 2009/10.

Newcastle are so heavily fancied as they have been able to keep hold of Rafael Benitez and most of their squad, despite relegation.

The Magpies have deemed it unnecessary to sell their key players, with only minimal departures expected from St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have also spent money in the transfer market to improve areas of the weakness in their squad.

Newcastle have brought in six new players - and most of their new additions have excelled in the Championship before.

Newcastle’s competitive campaign gets underway with a match against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
