Newcastle United continued their pre-season preparations on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 thrashing over Belgian side Lokeren.

The Magpies are the clear favourites to win the Championship title this coming season, having managed to keep most of their squad together from the Premier League.

Factor in that manager Rafael Benitez has not only stayed, but has also added to his squad, and Newcastle look to be dangerous - and they proved just that against Lokeren.

Newcastle hammered the Belgian side 4-0, with Ayoze Perez scoring twice either side of a Daryl Janmaat header, and Jonjo Shelvey adding a second half goal via a deflection.

With less than two weeks to go until Newcastle take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on the opening weekend of the Championship season, Benitez's will be pleased with how his Magpies are playing in pre-season - and his players were certainly happy at full-time on Saturday, with many taking to Twitter.

Two-goal hero Perez was happy with the performance and his own personal display, but suggested that the win was only the beginning for Newcastle, and they must keep working.

Dutchman Janmaat also celebrated his rare goal, whilst new signing Dwight Gayle commented on a 'solid performance' from his new team-mates.

Winger Rolando Aarons was pleased to land another assist having set up Perez's opener, whilst centre back Chancel Mbemba also celebrated the victory.
