Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rubbished suggestions that Ragnar Klavan will be fourth choice at the club to the Liverpool Echo.

The defender joined the Reds earlier this week as he completed a move from German side Augsburg.

He has been brought in to help bolster Klopp’s defensive options next season, given both Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel have been allowed to leave this summer.

The belief had been that he would be providing back up to the likes of Joel Matip, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren.

However, Klopp has rubbished such claims, saying people should watch his new man play before making any judgements.

“I've heard that people have been talking about (Ragnar) Klavan as our fourth option (at centre-back),” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“Wait and see him play and then tell me again that he should wait until all the others are injured or something.”

It will now be interesting to see the role that Klavan plays next season given Klopp’s comments on him.

The suggestion from the German is that he is far from just a back up option and will have a big part to play for them in the upcoming campaign.

It would certainly not be surprising to see Klopp changing up his defence given it has been a particular weak point for several years.
