They may not be the only big names to depart, with Moussa Sissoko having been heavily linked with several clubs following his excellent performances for France at Euro 2016.
One man who hasn’t left is Jonjo Shelvey, and he insists that he always wanted to stay at St James Park this summer.
“I always wanted to stay here because I want to play for Newcastle United Football Club,” he told the Chronicle.
“That’s been the only thing in my mind, and fingers crossed I can get the opportunity off the gaffer to play week in, week out next season and show him what I’m made of.”

It will now be interesting to see if Shelvey does have a role to play at Newcastle next season.
Rafa Benitez dropped him from his team at the end of last season and it remains to be seen if that continues to be the case in the Championship.
Should he not be guaranteed a starting role, perhaps his stance on staying will change considerably.
