The diminutive attacker returns to La Liga on a season-long loan.
Carles Gil celebrates after scoring for Aston Villa
The talented playmaker leaves Villa Park after just a season and a half, following his move from Valencia in January last year, and there is a palpable sense of disappointment among the supporters.

Gil showed flashes of brilliance during his time with the Villains, most notably his wonder goal against Bournemouth last season, but he was unable to produce on a consistent basis.
The club’s descent into the Championship was unlikely to improve that return, with the Spaniard struggling to cope with the physical demands of English football.
Roberto Di Matteo
His departure doesn’t necessarily signal the end of his Villa career and Roberto Di Matteo will be hopeful of a reunion with the 23-year old in the Premier League in a year’s time.
A season spent further developing his game in La Liga will do wonders for Gil and will either prepare him for a return to Villa or inflate his price tag if a permanent move is on the cards.
Villa fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Gil’s exit and there was a clear sense of disappointment:
Why have we let Carles Gil go out on loan— JΔI (@Jai_Everitt) July 22, 2016
Why we've let Carles Gil go out on loan I'll never know— Harris Jackson (@HarrisJackson96) July 22, 2016
Gutted to hear Carles Gil has gone... Right up there with Mark Draper in #avfc legend status in my warped mind— Frem (@TheRealFrem) July 22, 2016
Kinda glad Carles Gil has gone on loan, too good for championship and it's not permanent, give us a year and we'll back where we belong— Wil (@will_avfc) July 22, 2016
#AVFC Carles Gil - 28 games, 2 goals (100% more than Agbonlahor admittedly), no loss, move on.— bruce♦avfc (@thegolfvillan) July 22, 2016
Said Carles Gil wasn't going to do anything when he signed for villa, I wonder why Valencia let him go if he was so good?— Steven Gasby (@StevenGasby) July 22, 2016
Carles Gil has so much talent and ability, but seems to have a bit of an attitude problem, which lets him down #avfc— Matt (@Mtthwcwn) July 22, 2016
So glad I won't be watching Carles Gil pivot on the half way line next season— Ben Stevens (@BenStevens12) July 22, 2016
