Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted to the club’s official website that they will spend big in the transfer window, but only on the right player.
Gunners fans were left somewhat dismayed this week as comments from Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis hinted that there may not be any more big signings at the club this summer.
They have only signed Granit Xhaka for a big price tag, with Takuma Asano and Rob Holding both arriving as youngsters to be developed for the future.

In the meantime they have had to watch as the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United spend huge sums improving their squads.
Wenger has now moved to assure them they will spend big, but with the caveat that they will only do so if they can identify the right player to suit their needs.
“I am sure that my chief executive didn’t want to dampen the expectations on that front. We are very active,” the told the club’s official website.
"We are very active. If we find the right candidates then we will spend the big money. Overall we have made a big investment already but we are active."

It now remains to be seen if Arsenal can secure the signings that they need to ensure they can compete next season.
A striker is clearly top of their wish list but so far they have endured frustration in their hunt to find the right man.
It is a problem that other sides, such as West Ham, have found too, and perhaps Wenger will have to change his stance to ensure that Arsenal aren’t left behind by their main rivals.
