According to reports from Foot Mercato, Southampton are in the market for a new forward and are battling with Crystal Palace for the signature of Porto man Moussa Marega.

The 25-year-old started last season on fire while on loan at fellow Portuguese side Martimo, scoring 12 goals.

However, upon his return to Porto the Mali international struggled to get going and was ultimately left out of the squad for the final four league matches, prompting questions over his future at the club.

In other news, German publication Kicker via Sportowe Fakty suggest that the Saints have expressed an interest in signing Borussia Dortmund’s Jakub Blaszczykowski this summer.

The Poland international has found himself out of favour with the Bundesliga giants, moving to Fiorentina on loan where he struggled to make much of an impression and failed to win a permanent move.

West Ham United are also said to be keen, though the Saints have more reason to go in form him as the south coast club look to find the ideal replacement for the recently departed Sadio Mane.

Republic of Ireland's Shane Long

While not exactly a transfer story, Southampton fans nonetheless will be delighted to hear that Republic of Ireland forward Shane Long is back in the groove and looking forward to the season ahead.

The former Reading man featured heavily at the European Championships, and now he is ready to make his mark in Europe for club level as he talks about the upcoming Europa League camapign.

"I'm feeling in good shape, I'm excited about what is going to be a tough challenge. “A challenge for us to test ourselves against some of the best teams in Europe, and the Premier League is getting better – every team's improving and we're the same. It's not going to be an easy season,” he told the club’s Youtue channel.
