A select round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer news

Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko in action with Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle Unted midfielder Moussa Sissoko is waiting for a firm bid from Real Madrid after the Spanish giants entered the race to sign him in the last 24 hours.

The 11-time Champions League winners are seemingly giving up on trying to sign juventus man Paul Pogba, and instead have turned to his fellow France international teammate Sissoko.

The powerful midfielder is highly valued by Newcastle, yet that might not put Real Madrid off as Zinedine Zidane’s men look to make a splash in the transfer market this summer.

Newcastle's Georginio Wijnaldum shoots

In other news, Georginio Wijnaldum is set for a £15,000 wage increase as he closes in on a big-money move to Premier League side Liverpool, the Chronicle report.

The forward is expected to move to Anfield in the coming days after the Merseyside club saw a £25 million bid accepted by the Magpies, and it’s a deal which could open up potential loan opportunities.

The Dutchman enjoyed a good individual campaign at St. James’ Park last term, and not many at Newcastle will begrudge him an immediate return to the top-flight with Liverpool.

Grant Hanley of Blackburn Rovers

New Newcastle defender Grant Hanley has become the club’s sixth signing of the summer, and he is one which boss Rafa Benitez has been chasing all summer.

The 24-year-old arrives on a five-year deal for a fee in the region of £5.5 million, and Benitez is delighted to have finally gotten his man as he explains to the club’s official website what Hanley will offer.

"I am very pleased to bring Grant Hanley to our project to add his hard work and potential to our squad. It was clear that we needed another central defender and we were seeking someone with good experience in the Championship,” Benitez said.

"Grant is a young player with a lot of ambition to improve and keep growing with us. He is also a strong defender, fast and with personality, a player that surely will increase competitiveness in his position."

Arsenal's Isaac Hayden

Finally, fellow new signing Isaac Hayden has told the club’s website which aspect of his game he is looking to improve this coming season.

He said: “I think last season, I maybe should have got a few more. I'm confident enough in my ability to shoot from distance, to take shots on and try new things in the final third, but I think it's something I can work on and certainly add to my game."
