Tottenham Hotspur's pre-season tour squad to Australia features a number of high profile absentees.

All of those who played at Euro 2016 are missing, but more surprisingly, several players who have already returned to training will be left behind, with a real focus on youth instead.

Among the players who will not be travelling is Nabil Bentaleb, who along with Alex Pritchard and Grant Ward were three names who had been expected to feature.

Bentaleb had a disappointing, injury disrupted campaign last season, where he appeared to lose the trust of head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

A year earlier he had been one of the team's outstanding players, but along with Ryan Mason, the rise of Eric Dier has seen him fall down the pecking order, and with Victor Wanyama signed, his chances already looked bleak before the squad announcement.

Yet it was still surprising to see Bentaleb not included when Tom Carroll and Ryan Mason were, with the Algerian arguably having a higher upside than either player.

There is a strong chance that Bentaleb exits the club this summer now, as he appears not to be in the first team plans.
