Liverpool have made an enquiry for FC Schalke star Max Meyer, according to German newspaper Bild.

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a long-term admirer of the the 20-year old, with the report claiming that he tried to lure the youngster to the Westfalenstadion during his time at Dortmund.

Anfield could be the venue where he finally gets his man however, with Bild reporting that the Reds are willing to pay around 33.5 million euros (£27.9 million) to secure his services.

Meyer is one of German football’s most highly-regarded prospects and along with Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka, is a graduate of the famed Schalke academy.

Sane is close to a move to Manchester City, according to the Sun, and losing both him and Meyer in the same transfer window would be a massive blow for Schalke.

Money talks however, and the spending power of the Premier League dwarfs that of everyone other than Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Klopp has already added Sadio Mane to his attack this summer and looks set to secure the capture of Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum imminently - as reported by the Mirror - suggesting that Liverpool could sell a playmaker this summer if they do make a move for Meyer.
