Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies has admitted to the Daily Mail that they are looking to add a wildcard signing to their Champions League squad.

11pm on Thursday night was the deadline for the Hoops to register their squad for the third qualifying round.

It passed with no new signings arriving, despite Brendan Rodgers’ hopes to have a new player in the squad before it.

However, UEFA rules allow clubs to leave a space in their European squad for a new player on the eve of their game.

And Chris Davies has refused to rule out the possibility of new signings arriving, especially with concerns over their defensive options.

“It is being worked on and we have the wildcard option which is a buffer for us as well,” he told the Daily Mail.

“We know the areas we need to improve on and we have identified targets. It would be a big boost for us if we can get people in who are going to make the difference.”

It will now be interesting to see where Rodgers looks to make further additions this summer, with fans so far frustrated at their business.

He has only signed Moussa Dembele from Fulham, despite there being widespread belief that the current squad is not good enough.

The first leg loss to Lincoln Red Imps is likely to have made Rodgers believe the same and it remains to be seen what further moves he makes in the remainder of the window.
