Arsene Wenger has suggested to Arsenal’s official website that they won’t be signing another midfielder this summer.

The Gunners have been quiet so far in the transfer window, with Granit Xhaka the only new arrival at the club.

He was brought in to help fill the gap made by the departures of Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta at the end of last season.

Despite those three players leaving, manager Arsene Wenger still has a plethora of options available to him in the centre of the park.

And he has suggested that they will not be looking to add any more signings in that position.

“We lost three midfielders: Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, and numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now,” he told the club’s official website.

“Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will come back, Wilshere is back so we are solid in midfield.”

With another midfield arrival seemingly ruled out by Wenger, it will be interesting to see what other areas he does add in.

A striker seems to be top of his wish list, with a move for Jamie Vardy falling through when he decided to stay with Premier League champions Leicester City.

Other areas of the team need improvement though, and it remains to be seen if Wenger is as active as the other top four teams have been so far.
