Aaron Cresswell is West Ham's only senior left-back option
The problem for Slaven Bilic is that the 26-year-old is the club's only recognised left-back. With West Ham's participation in the Europa League this season, they need to strengthen in that area of the pitch, to provide cover for Cresswell to ensure they are fully equipped should he succumb to injury or suspension.
An ideal squad addition would be free agent Jose Enrique. The former Newcastle United and Liverpool full-back has spent nine years in the English game, so is already accustomed to the hustle and bustle style of the Premier League.
Jose Enrique could act as cover for Aaron Cresswell
He is similar in style to Cresswell. Both players are accomplished defenders but also possess the ability to bomb forward and provide support in attacking areas.
Enrique, 30, still has plenty of years left at the highest level, and with West Ham facing the possibility of so many games this season, a move for the Spaniard could turn out to be an extremely important one.

The Hammers hierarchy have made no secret of their desire to bring a world-class striker to the club over the summer, and there is a chance that their bullish pursuit of a forward could have a detrimental effect on the rest of the squad, with certain areas being disregarded.
Slaven Bilic must ensure that he recruits in departments of the pitch that need addressing, and the acquisition of Jose Enrique would certainly fill a particular squad gap. It would be a move with minimal risk involved, and is one the Hammers should most definitely consider.
