Georginio Wijnaldum looks set to join Liverpool
The Magpies have slapped a £35m asking price on the Frenchman in an attempt to put potential buyers off a move (via Chronicle), but the drawn out nature of Wijnaldum's seemingly-imminent departure could play into Everton's hands if they do hope to land Sissoko, and for less than the asking price.
The Chronicle reports that the Championship side are keen to avoid the squad being burdened by the uncertainty of a player's future like they have been with Wijnaldum, so may be more willing to reach a compromise regarding a deal for Sissoko if it means that the situation is resolved quickly.
Though paying £35m for a player gearing up for a season in the second tier seems very steep, the 26-year-old has shown that he has the ability to shine at the highest level and has plenty of knowledge of the Premier League. And if they can use Newcastle's desire to avoid a protracted saga to lower the price, then it will surely be a good piece of business.
But with the Chronicle reporting that Juventus want Sissoko if his countryman Paul Pogba ends up joining Manchester United, the Toffees may have to get the balance right between getting the best deal for them and making sure they put enough of an attractive offer on the table to ensure that the deal is done before the Italian giants can seriously join the race.
