The Gunners are said to have approached their north London rivals about the young Cameroon international.

Arsenal's search for new attacker is so desperate they've attempted the unthinkable - to sign a Tottenham Hotspur player.

According to Get French Football News, which cites Thursday's L'Equipe, the Gunners made a recent enquiry for Spurs youngster Clinton N'Jie.

Despite being pictured among White Hart Lane teammates in London this week, N'Jie is expected to go on loan to Marseille in the near future.

The report claims the deal includes an obligatory €7 million purchase option, which comes into effect after a certain number of matches - and if L'OM avoid relegation to Ligue 2.

N'Jie arrived at Spurs from Lyon a year ago, but struggled to make an impact having missed a large chunk of the campaign through injury.

The recent capture of Vincent Janssen looks certain to further limit the Cameroonian's chances, as does the imminent addition of Marseille youngster Georges-Kevin N'Koudou.

Despite getting off to a good start in the transfer market, Arsenal have only added Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka so far, with many supporters continuing to call for attacking reinforcements.
