Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has been dealt a major blow after the striker told the club’s official website he will be staying.

The Gunners are keen to add a striker to their squad this summer to ensure they can compete next season.

They have been linked with a number of strikers across Europe, with Icardi thought to be one of those they were pursuing.

They appeared to be stepping up their chase this week as Corriere dello Sport reported that they were meeting with agent to discuss a deal yesterday.

However, it now appears that Icardi has to put an end to the speculation about his future by saying that he will be remaining with the Italian side until 2019.

"I’m going to be here until 2019," he told the club’s official website.

"I have a contract and we love it in Milan. The whole family wants to stay. It doesn’t distract me, I’ve been at Inter for three years and it’s been the same thing every season. I’m an Interista."

Those comments will come as bad news to Arsenal, who appeared to have set their sights on Icardi this summer.

His apparent rejection will see him become the second striker to turn down Arsene Wenger after Jamie Vardy’s decision to stay at Leicester City earlier in the window.

It now remains to be seen where Arsene Wenger will turn, with his striker search proving to be a frustrating one so far.
